Reviews for La Casa de la Playa

Your home away from home and then some!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

La Casa de La Playa Playa del Carmen Your home away from home and then some! 946367137 This was our 3rd visit to "our home on the beach". With only 63 suites on the property, at times we had the beach to ourselves. This resort is like living in a work of art with amazing pieces from artists all over Mexico. Even the dishes are so beautiful that I am ordering some from the supplier. The food is a gastronomic journey through Mexico with exquisite freshness & quality. It was an amazing place, but my favorite part of this resort was the staff. Everyone was very welcoming and genuinely friendly. It was a surprise to me that the staff could be so full of positive energy, despite only having 1 day off per week!! Our room butlers Frida and Gabriela were very attentive to any of our needs; including when to schedule housekeeping or turn-down service for our room. Frida worked her magic to put us exactly where we wanted at the Beach House. Gabriela planned an amazing excursion for us to see the beaches of Tulum, a museum, lunch & shopping and did this within a few hours of our request. My husband and I will never forget a staff member named Miguel, who looked after us with outstanding quality of service & cheer. One day, I saw him patiently escort an elderly guest to the pool stairs and then brought her sandals for her as she got out of the pool to be escorted back to her spot. Miguel has the biggest heart and excellent attention to detail. Having access to any of the Xcaret parks whenever we wanted, made us feel like rockstars and we travelled comfortably in the many chauffered luxury vehicles available to us. There are many excursions offered if you want to visit cenotes or archaeological sites. We had so much fun at the backstage tour of the show Espectacular in the Grand Tlachco theatre at Xcaret Park. We were brought up to the stage floor from the backstage platform below during the pre-show! The audience clapped as we waved and crossed the stage - fun!! Then they delivered a 7 course meal and drinks while we watched the amazing show. It really lived up to its name. As for logistics to/from the airport: staff in pink shirts are easy to find & will escort you to your private ride in an air conditioned vehicle. If you miss them, you can check out the private lounge that are a few steps from the airport exit that has air conditioning, seating, drinks & snacks.

I'm almost at a loss for words...

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I'm almost at a loss for words, but that's not my style, so here goes. First a word salad... Serene, architecturally stunning, exemplary service, local artisans, spectacular food, graceful service, quiet, friendly, international. My wife and I had incredibly high expectations for La Casa de La Playa and they were exceeded in every way. The property itself is breathtaking and the architectural detail and focus on Mexican craftsman and artists is evident the moment you arrive in the lobby. We were immediately assisted with our luggage and introduced to one of our two full time butlers, Silvia. The check in process was as easy as could be and then Sylvia showed us to our beautiful room. Sylvia and Guillermo were our butlers for the week with Kiyoshi standing in when they had well deserved time off. They all checked in with us at the start of their shifts through WhatsApp, asking how our day was going and asking if there was anything we needed assistance with. Sylvia was actually kind enough to stop by Walmart and pick up some distilled water on the way into work on our first full day there as we needed some for a CPAP machine. The staff that worked all across the resort were warm, professional and friendly people. Although the resort is small, it can take a day or so to get acclimated to where everything is, and if you were not sure where you were going, more than likely someone would escort you to your location, rather than just give directions. We found similar behavior on our two short visits to Arte and Mexico. While I do understand that it's work, and of course has its moments, the overall feeling we got is that most of the staff sincerely enjoys working at this resort. We primarily got this feeling by observing the laughter and warmth they seemed to show each other when just interacting among themselves. This really contributed to our entire stay remaining relaxed, and it seems to have affected many other guests in the same manner, most stress-free vacation ever! One of the primary reasons we decided to vacation at CDLP was of course the food, and it impressed us across the board. To be able to have breakfast, lunch and dinner at restaurants helmed by Virgilio Martinez and Martha Ortiz was a real treat and we also rather enjoyed our dinners at the Rivera-Rio Brothers restaurants too. Although all but Estero are a la carte for dinner, if you want to be a bit adventurous, you can request that the chef just sends out a variety of dishes based on how hungry you are at the moment, and this worked out really well for us as a party of two and a party of four one evening. We also had dinner at Ha on our last night at the resort and it was certainly worth the quick drive over to Mexico for another great meal. There were certainly far too many dishes to mention that we liked so here's just a few absolute standouts... - Corn Pancakes at Tuch de Luna for Breakfast - Wagyu Tartar with Vanilla Textures at Estero for Lunch - Northern Style Flank Steak Barbacoa at Lumbre for Dinner I could go on and on with other notable dishes, but I think you get the idea. Even the poolside snacks were delicious. We make dining one of the most integral parts of any vacation and boy did CDLP live up to our expectations. If food is not one of the things that brings you the most joy in life, or you are a 'picky' eater, I'm not sure that this is necessarily the best place for you, but we did see them accommodate a friend we met on the trip with much more straightforward and simpler options when requested. One last thing before I wrap this up is that the resort had a nice international mix of guests. I would guess that the percentage of guests from North America was not much more than 50%. We met two very nice couples from Mexico City, and there were certainly visitors from other Central and Southern American areas, along with folks from other parts of the globe. We also did meet two couples on our first full day there, from the states, that we spend our majority of time with, so thanks to all of them for helping to make our stay more enjoyable. If I had to come up with one negative regarding our stay, it was that we were in a second floor Ocean View Wellness Suite and it appears that it was the only second floor room where the tree line had grown tall enough that our ocean view was somewhat obstructed. We spend so little time in the room, primarily to get ready for meals or to sleep that it didn't materially affect our stay one bit. All in all one of the most magical vacations we've experienced and CDLP certainly blew away any other All Inclusive that we've stayed at. We can't wait to return.  Thanks to everyone at the resort for making our stay so enjoyable.

Overall Amazing as Always

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

It was our third time staying at CDLP. I have read a lot of bad reviews and I’m surprised!! It feels so good to go back and most of the staff recognizes you and treat you like royalty. Yes, we encountered a couple of drivers that didn’t even introduced themselves and were a big arrogant which has never happened before. A girl named Veronica in Buffet Mercado San Juan in Arte was very rude! But I’m not letting those people ruin it for the overall experience! For the first time ever I did get sick from the food served at Tlachco Dinner, they should change the menu to something more traditional!! Kevin a bartender from the roof top pool is very rude. It looked like he was being forced to serve us and didn’t make us feel welcome!! Abraham, Guillermo our butlers were THE BEST!!!!!! Guillermo is without a doubt one of a kind, he is the most helpful and respectful person ever and every time we need something he does everything to get it to us!!! Abraham is new but he is on the right path as he was very very nice too!!! Alejandro* El Maestro de Las Bebidas* He is the Master!!!! (Bartender) He loves what he does, he makes very unique cocktails that you will not find somewhere else!! “Amor Prohibido” or Pink Drink Is the best example Cleaning Ladies and Gentlemen Yall do such a great job 👏🏼 Thank you for what you do!!! No matter what others say: Limpian estupendamente bien las habitaciones 💓
